Fabello Bookstor Pointers represents the union of two such legacies: the storied consistency of Fabello, founded by Ash Oldfield, and the world-renowned pedigrees of Bookstor, the lifelong passion project of Dr. Howard and Karen Spey.
Individually, each name has left an indelible mark on the breed. Together, they form one of the most formidable Pointer breeding programs in North America today.
Ash Oldfield’s work with Pointers began in Australia, where a sharp eye for structure, movement, and type first took shape. That foundation traveled with her to the United States, where Fabello Pointers has gone on to produce over 60 champions and claim more than 8 National Specialty wins—a résumé that places Fabello among the most accomplished Pointer breeding and handling programs of its generation.
Ash’s dogs, and the dogs she has piloted for others, are a familiar sight at the breed’s biggest stages. Most recently, GCHG CH Bookstor Fabello Larksong, bred by K. & H. Spey & A. Oldfield and handled by Ash, took Best of Opposite Sex at the 2025 Westminster Kennel Club Show—a fitting showcase of the type, soundness, and presence that define the Fabello name.
This is a program built not on one great dog, but on a clear philosophy that continues, litter after litter, to produce Pointers of extraordinary quality and consistency.
Dr. Howard & Karen Spey and the Bookstor Name
For decades, Bookstor has stood for something simple and exacting: type. Dr. Howard and Karen Spey have built a breeding program defined by a long, uninterrupted line of beautifully “typey” Pointers, many carefully imported from top bloodlines around the world to refine and elevate what already sat at the top of the breed.
The Bookstor name is etched throughout the breed’s competitive history—from GCHS CH Bookstor Sherlock Holmes TKN to CH Bookstor Fabello La Vie En Rose and GCH Bookstor Prince of Conde JH—a body of work built one thoughtful pairing at a time. It is a program grounded in patience, pedigree research, and an unrelenting standard for what a Pointer should be.
